Context
CarObsessed is a Barcelona-based car dealership specializing in high-end vehicles for enthusiasts. The business offers test drives, car sourcing, and inspection services with a service-first model rather than traditional retail.
Their original WordPress build had stalled. Hosting issues, plugin dependencies, and a heavy custom theme made the site unreliable and nearly impossible for a one-person operation to maintain. The site wasn't just underperforming — it was actively hurting credibility for a luxury brand.
The problems
Stalled WordPress build — A custom theme proved heavy, unreliable, and expensive to maintain. Plugin conflicts created recurring downtime. Updates required developer intervention.
No mobile management — The owner runs the business from showroom floors and test drives. WordPress offered no practical way to update inventory or content from a phone.
No conversion architecture — The site presented cars but didn't drive action. No strategic CTAs, no urgency mechanics, no psychology-informed messaging.
Broken credibility signals — For a luxury automotive dealer, the website is the first impression. Design inconsistencies and slow load times undermined the premium positioning.
Our approach
Platform migration to Shopify
Shopify was chosen not for its checkout functionality, but for structured inventory management, custom fields, and mobile-first admin capabilities. A one-person operation needs a platform that works from a phone, not one that requires a developer for every change.
- Migrated all existing content and inventory from WordPress
- Built on a free base theme, heavily customized with Liquid templating
- Ensured zero downtime during the transition
Conversion-first product structure
Built custom metafield structures to display car specifications in scannable technical data tables:
- Mileage, year, transmission, fuel type, features
- Consistent format across all vehicle listings
- Clean, premium presentation matching the luxury positioning
Psychology-driven CTAs
Implemented WhatsApp CTAs with automated messaging that creates urgency:
"Hi, I'm obsessed with the [Car Model] and I'd like to book my test drive now before someone else takes it."
Product titles auto-insert into pre-written copy. The messaging speaks the audience's language — enthusiast, not corporate.
Catalog UX redesign
Redesigned the entire car portfolio using e-commerce catalog browsing patterns:
- Familiar product-style interfaces that reduce cognitive load
- High-quality image galleries with consistent presentation
- Quick-scan specifications without excessive scrolling
- Mobile-first layout for browsing and sharing
Service pages & social proof
- Built dedicated pages for Car Sourcing, Inspection, and Test Drive services
- Integrated Instagram feed for dynamic social proof
- SEO-friendly URL structures with clean metadata
What we built (the assets)
| Asset | Status | |---|---| | Shopify site (customized free theme) | Live | | Custom metafield vehicle specification system | Active | | WhatsApp CTA integration with auto-messaging | Running | | Catalog UX with e-commerce browsing patterns | Deployed | | Service pages (Sourcing, Inspection, Test Drives) | Published | | Instagram feed integration | Live | | SEO foundation (URLs, metadata, structured data) | Indexed | | Mobile-first admin workflow | Active |
Outcomes
- Timeline: Fully migrated and launched in 2 weeks
- Mobile management: Owner updates inventory and content independently from phone
- Design: 100% mobile-first, premium visual presentation
- Performance: Significantly faster load times vs. WordPress build
- Conversion: WhatsApp CTAs generating direct test drive bookings
What compounded
The Shopify migration wasn't just a platform change — it removed a ceiling. On WordPress, every content update required technical help. On Shopify, the owner adds new vehicles in minutes from his phone.
The conversion architecture compounds because every new listing automatically inherits the CTA system, the specification template, and the catalog UX. There's no additional design or development work per vehicle.
The Instagram integration means social content automatically refreshes the site's social proof. Every post the owner makes serves double duty — social engagement and website credibility.
Most importantly: a luxury brand now has a website that matches its positioning. In automotive, where purchase decisions start online, that credibility compounds into every conversation, test drive, and referral.
